THREE POINTS (KGUN9-TV) – An 80-year-old woman was killed in a head-on collision Thursday night on Sierrita Mountain Rd. in Three Points.
Gracie Baldwin was less than five miles from home when the accident happened.
Pima County Sheriffs said Border Patrol agents were traveling southbound on Sierrita Mountain Rd. in an unmarked vehicle when they saw another vehicle going the opposite direction that “looked suspicious.”
As the agents were turning their vehicle around, the other vehicle took off “at a high rate of speed.”
The fleeing vehicle then slammed head-on into the vehicle carrying Gracie and a 55-year-old woman.
Gracie died on her way to the hospital and the other woman in the vehicle with her suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver and front seat passenger in the vehicle that hit Gracie’s fled into the desert. However, they were later found and arrested.
