Incoming California governor Gavin Newsom plans to reverse outgoing Gov. Jerry Brown’s decision to send the California National Guard to the U.S.-Mexico border to assist President Donald Trump’s enforcement efforts.
Instead of keeping migrants out, Newsom said, he would focus on helping “refugees” who arrive in the state. (Politico also used the term “refugees,” though many do not qualify for asylum.)
