On Monday, Mesa Police Officer, Brandon Mendoza, was killed in a head-on collision when his Volkswagen Passat was struck on Interstate 10 by a Chevrolet Trailblazer. Both vehicles burst into flames, and Officer Mendoza was transported to a hospital in Phoenix, where he was soon pronounced dead.

The driver of that SUV was later identified as Raul Silva-Corona, 42. He had a Blood Alcohol Level of 0.238, nearly three time’s the legal limit, according to police.

Silva-Corona, who died at the scene, drove Southbound for more than 30 miles in the Northbound lanes of Interstate 51, before slamming into Ofc. Mendoza, stated the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
