Previously deported illegal alien charged in near-fatal DUI crash in Arizona


On New Year’s Eve, a Pima County sheriff’s deputy arrested Alfonso Gutierrez-Mateo, 34, after a chase which ended in a head-on collision, leaving one woman critically injured.

Gutierrez-Mateo was initially spotted at the intersection of Speedway and Painted Hills Road, in Tucson, driving the wrong way with his headlights off, according to court documents.

A mile and a half later, Gutierrez-Mateo slammed his pick up truck, head-on into another vehicle, injuring two women.
